On the occasion of Republic Day, 2 jawans of South Bengal Frontier, Border Security have been honored for their outstanding contribution in the services of the nation. Constable Sunder Singh, 44 Battalion and Constable Anand Oran, 153 Battalion have been awarded the Police Medal for Gallantry in Distinguished Services on the 73rd Republic Day.

Constable Sundar Singh joined BSF as a Seema Prahari (Constable) in the year 2001. The Seema Prahari has shown his excellence in the discharge of his duty in BSF at various places, in which the jawan fought alone on the border of Malda district of West Bengal on January 29, 2021, without caring for his life in the fight against 05-06 smugglers, eventually the smugglers had to take their steps back in front of the bravery of the jawan. In this fight, Sunder Singh suffered a serious head injury, despite this Sunder Singh took a smuggler in his custody. While seeing the enthusiasm and courage of the jawan, rest of the smugglers fled away.

On the other hand, Seema Prahari (Constable) Anand Oran joined the Border Security Force in 2013. Seema Prahari Anand Oran has been decorated with Police Medal for Gallantry for his distinguished gallantry act and courage in North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal in 2019. Anand Oran single-handedly fought against a group of 20–25 smugglers on the Indo-Bangladesh Border at around 0145 hrs on 20 August, 2019 while on night duty. The smugglers were armed with sharp weapons. Constable Anand Oran not only thwarted the plans of the smugglers but also rescued 10 cattle from the clutches of the smugglers. Although Anand Oran was seriously injured in this encounter, but he proved that he is completely dedicated to the nation by nabbing a Bangladeshi smuggler even in the injured condition.

Anurag Garg, IPS, Inspector General, South Bengal Frontier, congratulated both the jawans, and stated that they were honored Police Medal for Gallantry by the Government of India by admiring the courageous encounters and devotion to duty by Constable Anand Oran and Constable Sunder Singh against smugglers.
