Smuggling attempt failed, BSF apprehended the smuggler with 220 packets of medicines

On 16 January 2022, the Border Security Force troops under the South Bengal Frontier, thwarting smuggling attempts, apprehended a smuggler with medicines. The smuggler was trying to smuggle all these medicines from India to Bangladesh through the area of North 24 Parganas district.

On January 16, 2022, the troops of Border Out Post Dobarpara, 158 Battalion, Sector Kolkata were on a search operation during routine duty along the International Boundary. Around 1150 hrs, the BSF party noticed a suspicious bike in black color (WB 26 AD 6642) approaching towards the International Boundary when the BSF troops stopped it for search, the bike rider tried to run away. But the alert troops caught the smuggler. On searching the smuggler, 220 packets of Vigore 100 mg tablet were recovered from him inside two small bags. The estimated price of which was found to be Rs.25,520/-. The arrested smuggler has been identified as Ashok Ghosh, age- 59 years, Village + Post Office – Bornberia, PS – Gaighata, District – North 24 Parganas (West Bengal).

During preliminary interrogation, arrested smuggler Ashok Ghosh told that he has been smuggling work for Sabir Mandal (Mandal Drug House, Motiganj, Bangaon) since a long time. He further told that today (January 16, 2022) he had taken all these medicines from Sabir Mandal, Bangaon, which was to be handed over to a smuggler named Sanjit Ghosh (Village + Post Office – Bornberia, PS – Gaighata) by crossing the BSF duty line. Ghosh was to give all these medicines to Bangladeshi smugglers. For this work he would have got 2000 rupees from Sabir Mandal. But as soon as he reached near the BSF duty line, the BSF troops caught him with all the medicines.

Apprehended smugglers and seized medicines have been handed over to police station Gaighata for further legal action.

The Public Relations Officer, South Bengal Frontier has expressed happiness over the achievements of the troops of 158 Batallion, in which the jawans caught 01 smuggler with medicines, adding that this was possible only because of the alertness shown by their jawans on duty. The officials also stated in strong words that they will not allow any kind of smuggling in their area of responsibility.
