Senior women Inter-department National Championship 2021 Kicks off in Kolkata from  today

Kolkata,24 October 2021

1st Hockey India Senior Women Inter- Department National Championship 2021started at Sports Authority of India ‘s Astro Turf ground today.

For the first time, Hockey Bengal is Organizing this Senior category prestigious National level Hockey Championship for Women. Ex Olympians and many other International Hockey players are participating.

The 9 day long Championship is maintaining all Covid related guidelines issued by the Government.
Total nine teams are participating in this mega event such as 
Sports Authority of India, Central Reserve Police Force,
Steel Plants Sports Board , Sashastra Seema Bal,
UCO Bank Women’s Hockey Academy, 
Defence Accounts Sports Control Board, Central Civil Service Cultural &
Sports Board, Railway Sports Promotion Board and Tamil Nadu Police.

Renowned cricketer and Minister of State for Sports Manoj Tiwari and other dignitaries graced the opening ceremony today at Saltlake SAI ground.

The Organising Secretary of the tournament Istiyak Ali said: “It is a great initiative by Hockey India to introduce an exclusive annual tournament for Institutions and PSUs and we are delighted to host the first edition of the tournament here in Kolkata. With the Indian Men and Women Hockey Teams doing really well in the Olympics, there is a lot of interest for hockey and we are hopeful of inspiring more youngsters from this region to take up the sports at a professional level.” We look forward to hosting a successful event,” he added.

Seema Sashshtra Bal coach, Pradeep Singh lauded the decision to launch the tournament.
“It is a well-known fact that more competitions will always help young players develop better and faster,” Pradeep Singh said in a Hockey India release.
“Women’s hockey is going through a surge right now, and the more the tournaments, the more encouragement for players to stay in the game,” he added.
Pradeep further lauded the growth of such competitions for the women’s game. “A lack of opportunity is usually the death knell for players at a young age.”
“But thanks to the increase in national level tournaments of this sort, players can aspire for more, get exposure to competition and even get better jobs, all of which will encourage them to stay in the game,” he said.

Today three matches were played  and the results are hereunder:

Sports  Authority of  India VS Defence Sports  Control Board ( 30 – 0)

Steel Plants  Sports Board  VS UCO Bank Women’s Hockey Academy( 9- 2)

Central Reserve Police Force Vs Central Civil Services Cultural & Sports Board( 5 – 2)

The final encounter for the title will be held on 31st October 2021.
