North Bengal was shaken by a mild earthquake. The quake affected Assam and Meghalaya at 7.45 am on Wednesday. The magnitude of the vibration on the Richter scale is 5.2. The epicenter was reported below the Goalpara plateau in Assam.
The quake was felt in most districts of North Bengal. The tremors were felt in Kochbihar, Jalpaiguri and Dinajpur, residents said. Even in Bangladesh, where tremors were felt, ordinary people came out of their houses in panic.
A woman named Pampa Poddar said, “I just woke up and after that I saw the house shaking. I ran out of the street in fear. I’m scared. Because there have been many earthquakes before. However, a very mild tremor was felt.
No casualties have been reported so far.
