Bangladesh Capital City Dhaka overtakes Dubai in the list of most expensive cities in the world
Dhaka, Bangladesh 23 June 2021:Dhaka has overtaken Dubai and Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates in the list of the most expensive cities in the world. The list was released on Tuesday (June 22nd) by the US-based survey firm Mercer. This time 209 cities have been included for this 2021 survey.
Dhaka ranks 40th in the list. However, last year it was in the 26th place. The UAE is currently ranked 42nd in Dubai and 56th in Abu Dhabi. Dhaka is one of the most expensive cities in the world. Among them are Bangkok, Rome, Washington, Mumbai, Manila, Toronto, New Delhi, Munich, Brussels, Berlin and Moscow.
Ashgabat, the capital city of Turkmenistan, topped Hong Kong in the ‘Cost of Living City Ranking-2021‘ survey. As a result, Hong Kong has dropped to the second place. Beirut, the capital of Lebanon, came in third on the list. Last year, their position was 45th. Their decline is due to a multi-faceted crisis, including inflation, as a result of a severe and long-term economic downturn.
Jean-Philippe Sara, head of the company’s Global Mobility Practice branch in France, said Ashgabat had risen to the top spot due to high inflation.
The Japanese capital, Tokyo, slipped one place to fourth on the list of cities with the highest housing costs. City of Zurich, Switzerland is in fifth place, Geneva is in eighth place and the city of Bern is in tenth place. In sixth place is Shanghai, China and in ninth place is Beijing. Singapore City ranks 7th in the list.
But people of Bangladesh feeling the pain of the cost of living in the capital as present day expenses is sky rocketed for most of the people.
