KOLKATA: Defender Hira Mondal recognised for his efforts across the season as he was chosen by the All India Football Federation (AIFF) as part of the Hero I-League Team of the Season.
Hira is the only player from Mohammedan Sporting Club to feature in the team of the 2020-21 season, where Mohammedan finished at a sixth place with 20 points from 15 outings.
The team, which was revealed on Thursday, is dominated by players from TRAU FC with four players, followed by Gokulam Kerala and Churchill Brothers, with three and two respectively, and Roundglass Punjab FC with one player.
The 24-year-old was Mr. Consistent for Mohammedan throughout the season, popping up wherever he was needed at just the right time. Hira put in a number of consistent performances from left-back. A full-back who loves to bomb forward, Hira chipped in with two goals in 14 appearances to add to his defensive contributions. Hira was a rock at the back for Mohammedan all season long, with his calm on the ball and his aggression off it. He relentlessly stayed with his wingers, not giving them an inch of space to operate which made him one of the hottest prospects in the league.
The defender is definitely one of the brightest prospects in Indian Football and his performance in the recently concluded Hero I-League holds out a lot of promises for football fans and pundits alike.
