KOLKATA: Mohammedan Sporting Club will be looking to finish their Hero I-League engagements on a high against Real Kashmir FC in their concluding match on Thursday.

The match is slated for a 7 PM kick-off at Kalyani Municipal Stadium and will be broadcast LIVE on 1 Sports with online streaming available on 1 Sports’ Facebook page.

As the 2020/21 campaign draws to an end Mohammedan will be looking to end off with a top five finish. Mohammedan are currently on fifth position in the league table with 20 points from 14 matches. While their opponents Real Kashmir are on sixth with 18 points. A win for Mohammedan means they remain on fifth place and should Roundglass Punjab FC (22 points) lose to Churchill Brothers on Saturday, Mohammedan would end up fourth as well.

Mohammedan Sporting Club head into the game on the back of a 2-1 defeat against Gokulam Kerala FC and coach Sankarlal hinted that he will give reserve bench players a go as he looks to give them more game time in their final league game.

“We approach this game as we do in the other games. We always want to finish as high as possible on the table. We have one game to go and still have to make sure that we fight until the last minute of the last game. Players are motivated to wrap the season on a good note. We are playing a good team and a coach who is very experienced. It’s important that we have a balanced side but yes, I will make a few changes. Give minutes to some of the guys who were on the bench.”

Reflecting back upon the team’s performance in the I-League, coach Sankarlal said: “Boys showed tremendous heart in every game and I am proud of the team that we have reached this far. However, By Mohammedan Sporting Club standards, we didn’t do well and failed to meet our objectives. There were too many unnecessary errors we could have avoided, but it’s gone and we cannot change it. We need to look forward and rectify our mistakes so we can deliver.”

All considering, coach Sankarlal has been extremely pleased with what he has seen from his troops over the last few weeks in what has been a difficult period for Hero I-League’s oldest club side.
