Helping Hands of Kolkata “Store of happiness” for the Sundarbans People on December 06,2020 from 10am to 6pm at Sonajhuri village in Sundarbans

Helping Hands of Kolkata (HHoK)  a social impact group setup by individuals from the ‘City of Joy’ – are organizing a “Store of Happiness” at Sonajhuri village in Sundarbans. The Sundarbans have always played a role of a shield for the rest of Bengal when it comes to cyclones, same was the case in Amphun too which lashed the state earlier this year, but this also takes a toll on the lives of the people from the region. With the ongoing pandemic and the lockdown that has been imposed because of it has impacted the lives of the people of Sundarbans in a major way. Through the “Store of Happiness” HHoK would like to bring in some joy in the lives of the 150+ people living this village.

HHoK is a foundation incepted by a group of individuals from the ‘City of Joy’, who have embarked upon a mission to join their helping hands to bring joy to those who have been deprived of it. The Kolkata-based foundation has been involved in social impact projects since 2012, which embrace the old who has been forsaken by her family, the young whose dreams needs to be inoculated, the less-fortunate who also deserves economic independence and self-sustenance, the specially-abled who only needs unconditional love, the less-fortunate who requires food and medical care, and mother earth without whom our existence is implausible.
Sanchari Chakraborty, who apart from her regular job at mjunction services Pvt ltd, also happens to be the Treasurer of HHoK, and according to her, “HHoK is a dream through which we are fuelling the dreams of others and also fulfilling our wish of giving something back to the society. This dream is not possible without the support of our existing donors, but to take this dream to the next level we want participation from all sections of our society.”

HHoK currently runs a Community Kitchen in Uttarpara, Hooghly where it feeds 50 people daily. The kitchen has been live since June and has already served close to 10000 meals. HHoK also has their interventions in the area of education where it supports the complete educational expenses including private tuitions of 4 girl childs. Under its talents sponsorship program, it supports n eight year old girl, Poushali from Duttapukur, who represents India in the Asiads in Yoga. Apart from these HHoK also supports an animal shelter in Odisha and a shelter home for women in Navi Mumbai with monthly supply of essentials.

“We are committed towards what we do to bring smile to underprivileged. The efforts put in by as may be small in magnitude but surely have ripple effects.”said Anisur Rahman, Vice President Helping Hands of Kolkata Another team member Abhishek Verma who is a President of HHOK said that”The idea behind HHok is not only to help the needy but it’s a conscious effort to increase the prevailing compassion quotient in our society. It’s a way of life. It’s what we believe our society can achieve. It’s our vision through our work.”

Kaushik Dey Founder and Secretary said “Helping Hands of Kolkata was incepted on the basis of trust and commitment. Trust, which our donors have on us, and commitment to the beneficiaries that we will always stand by them. Our focus are  primarily on education and hunger eradication projects which are long term in nature. We have several initiatives in the pipeline and we want to reach out to more and more geographies, but for that we need support. Individuals as well as Institutions, both need to come forward and collaborate with us for us to make a meaningful impact.
