The year 2019 is almost at its end and with the end of the yea, we are also about to enter into a new decade. We have witnessed a lot of development and changes in social customs, breaking stereotypes, changing beliefs. One of the best things this decade witnessed was the striking of Section 377 of the Indian Penal Code which basically stated being of any other sexual orientation other than straight would be considered illegal.
The striking of the article finally liberated the LGBTQ+ Community of India, finally giving them the right and respect to wilfully love and live their lives, even though we are still in a long run to finally establish the fact that being Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Queer or anything other than the normal stated sexual orientation is normal, this was a big step for India.
The Rainbow Pride Walk in Kolkata was first started in the year 1999. 2019 marks 20 years of this custom that is being practised.
On 29th of December, 2019 the Kolkata Rainbow Pride Walk took place were thousands of people representing the LGBTQ+ community and its supporters joined together to protest peacefully and convey their message of removing homophobia of the country.
The walk was also in protest of the ongoing bill and issues going on in the government that is the CAA (Civil Amendment Act) and NRC (National Registers of Citizen) an act that severely affects people from the LGBTQ+ community.
The walk started from Md. Ali Park in M.G. Road till Baghbazar.
