Mega rally of SC, ST, OBC and minorities on 6th December on Rani Rashmoni Raod

Ambedkar’s statue on Red Road is not original, claim Dalit and minority leaders. Backward classes and minorities demanded to pull down the statue of B R Ambedkar on Red Road in the heart of the city hardly two days ahead of the death anniversary of B R Ambedkar, principal architect of the Constitution of India and Dalit iconic in the country.

The Reason: The statue on Red Road is of a ‘foreigner’ and not of the great social reformer Ambedkar.

While addressing in a press conference organised by the Sangbidhan Banchao Samiti (SBS), a platform of SC, ST, OBC and minorities, in the city today office bearers alleged that the statue on Red Road is not an original one of Ambedkar. They have already written to the chief minister Miss Mamata Banerjee drawing her attention on the matter.
“This is a serious issue on the eve of his death anniversary and we have written to the
chief minister saying that the statute installed by the previous Left Front government on
Red Road is not of Ambedkar, the great reformer and iconic leader of the Dalits. You
might have noticed every statue of Ambedkar installed across the country wearing
spectacle but here on the Red Road statue no spectacle would be found,” said S Das,
one of the office bearers and a SC/ST leader.

“We have requested the chief minister to pull down the statue otherwise we will install a new one of original Ambedkar dismantling the existing bust,” he added.

“It’s very unfortunate to experience this here in our city. We have taken the issue seriously with our state government drawing its attention. We will also raise the issue in our mega rally of SC,ST, OBC, minorities and other under-developed classes on 6 December on Rani Rashmoni Raod,” Faruque Ahamed, another cor-committee member (SBS), Editor of Udar Akash a platform comprising serving and retired officials and bureaucrats to redress the problems downtrodden people.

“A huge turnout is expected in the rally where we will demand the protection of our constitutional rights and at the same time we will protest against the move of killing our citizenship in the name of NRC,” he added.

“On the day of Babri mosque demolition on 6th December we will observe it as a day of national integration. We have to strongly protest against the religious terrorism in the country,” said Md Kamaruzzan, another member of the samiti.
