Bengal Govt to set up museum at Chandraketugarh
An archaeological museum is being be set up by the State Government at Berachanpa near Chandraketugarh in North 24 Parganas district.
Located beside the river, Bidyadhari, Chandraketuharh has been an ancient trading post, evidences of which are strewn across the place, from coins and seals to terracotta figures to remnants of brick houses. It is to preserve these artefacts that the museum is going to be set up.
The museum would be inaugurated in January. It will be housed inside the Pather Sathi motel that the government has constructed in Berachanpa.
This place was originally the capital of a certain King Chandraketu, and hence the name. Evidences from the Maurya, Sunga, Kushana and other periods have also been found there.
