BS-IV Norms for Vehicles

Ministry of Road Transport & Highways has amended Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989 by mandating Mass Emission Norms, Bharat Stage-IV from 1st April, 2017 all over India for four wheeled vehicles vide notification GSR 643(E) dated 19th August, 2015, for three wheeled vehicles vide GSR 487(E) dated 12.06.2015 and for two wheeled vehicles vide GSR 431(E) dated 04.07.2014. As per the notifications, the Mass Emission Standards for Bharat Stage IV shall come into force all over the country in respect of all the three category of vehicles manufactured on or after the 1st April, 2017.

As per Hon’ble Supreme Court decision dated 29.03.2017, “All the vehicles registering authorities under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 are prohibited for registering such vehicles on and from 1st April, 2017 that do not meet BS-IV emission standards, except on proof that such a vehicle has already been sold on or before 31st March, 2017”.

This information was given by Minister of State in the Ministry of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises Shri Babul Supriyo in reply to a written question in the Lok Sabha today.
