Security software producer, Quick Heal Technologies took to propagate its innovation to combat the growing threat of Ransomware, which is a type of malware program that infects, locks or takes control of a system and demands ransom to undo it with a contest, ‘Quick Heal Khareedo Gaadi Jeeto Contest’, the winner of which stands to gain a car.

And it was Tanuj Dutta from Kolkata who drove home a brand new Nissan Terrano amongst around 43,300 participants in the 3rd year of this contest but others were not left disappointed either. Honda Activa and a laptop point and shoot cameras, bluetooth speakers, external hard disk drives, headphones and backpacks were some of the other prizes while all other participants won additional validity on their Quick Heal products which were activated and registered during the contest. The additional validity has been for two months, four months and six months.

Saurabh Sengupta, Associate General Manager (East), Quick Heal Technologies Limited speaking to IBG NSA about Quick Heal’s Q2 2016 Threat Report warned, “Ransomware variants will keep rising in the coming quarter as well. The cryptxxx ransomware is suspected to hit its targets with new and more advanced variants. Locky ransomware is expected to remain complicated because of its continuously changing internal coding and obfuscation techniques.  Ransomware-as-a-service (RaaS) is another trend which is taking momentum.”  Explaining RaaS, he said “The malware authors sell ransomware along with a customizable kit through the online black market. People can register and download them for free or a nominal fee. Once the ransomware file is customized as per the requirement, it is then spread through the desired infection vectors.”

Quick Heal, who are market leaders in India with around 30% market share in retail segment, has recently released version 17 of its flagship products which also provides protection against ransomware by proactive detection that stops ransomware from encrypting any data. . The new version of Quick Heal Total Security, Quick Heal Internet Security and Quick Heal Antivirus Pro is aimed at better equipping customers to save their data, transactions and computers from spyware, adware, keyloggers, riskware, and other malicious programs.
